..I could just say that this is a rare opportunity to experience one of the most important Fingerstyle Guitarists of all time in an extremely intimate setting but, this just sounds like promoter hyperbole…

…I could retell the story of how Alex Lifeson came to Stephen’s Concert the first time we had him here and was so inspired that he gave Stephen a Thank You credit on Rush’s Snakes and Arrows Album but, this just sounds like trying to get credibility through famous name dropping…, I think I will just tell about the first time I heard Stephen and why I refer to him as the Jedi Master Of Fingerstyle Guitar.

It was 2001 at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society Convention in Nashville, my first time attending The event was near the end so I had already spent four days listening to dozens of players who were new to me. They were all very good players, and many were quite entertaining, I was a little tired of listening to new players but I thought I would check out this Stephen Bennett guy anyway – I mean, the harp guitar in the picture looked cool.

I was completely mesmerized. The pure inevitability of his musicality was over-whelming. I thought to myself, everyone I had heard up to this point now sounded like students. To be sure, first rate students at the top of their class but, now I was hearing the Master

Sitting there watching and listening to this guy hunched over his harp guitar exuding this strange calmness and wisdom through his music just made me think of the Jedi Master, Yoda. So, the Jedi Master moniker is not promoter hyperbole, it was a genuine reaction to hearing Stephen for the first time three years before I started promoting guitar concerts.
